Your taste is more than a list of notes
Fragrance Compass helps you decide what to try next, and whether a bottle is worth buying unsniffed.
Who built this
Fragrance Compass was built by a fragrance enthusiast who kept noticing the same problem: people pay too much attention to notes. Two perfumes can share "vanilla" and "amber" and still feel nothing alike. Real taste also covers texture, how far a scent carries, and whether it suits the way you actually live.
Before launch, the site was tested with a focus group from Reddit. Since then, a community of users has kept growing, and their feedback shapes what we build next.
What we believe
- Your taste comes first. We match picks to what you already enjoy, not to what's trending or best-selling.
- We show how sure we are. Every pick has a confidence score, so you can tell a strong match from a long shot.
- We tell you the downsides. Each pick also lists what to watch out for, such as projection, how long it lasts, or a note that splits opinion.
- Sample first. Whenever a sample exists, we point you to it before the full bottle.
How recommendations work
- 1
We read your taste, not just notes
Notes are one input. We also weigh texture (creamy, airy, resinous), how loudly a scent projects, and how and where you plan to wear it.
- 2
We match how fragrances actually wear
We use available fragrance profiles and scent information to compare texture, projection, and wearability—not just what's trending.
- 3
Every match says how sure it is
Confidence scores or safe, adjacent, and stretch labels describe estimated fit—not a guarantee. Picks explain why they may work and what to watch out for.
- 4
Sample before you commit
We point you to a sample first whenever one exists. No recommendation can replace trying a scent on your own skin.
Recommendations are guidance, not guarantees. Skin chemistry and personal taste always get the final say. More about our approach
How the site makes money
Some shop buttons are affiliate links, so we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Guide pages may show one clearly labelled ad, and only after you agree to cookies. Money never changes the order of recommendations. An optional Pro plan adds advanced tools.
